Smash into pieces6/19/2023 ![]() Guitars don’t even come into the track until around the half way point, but when they do, they hit with a thunderous force, making an already grandiose song even more epic. It’s incredibly cinematic in presentation, as if the soundtrack to a film that doesn’t exist, with moments that feel akin to that of a Bond theme. ![]() There’s a dark feel to it, with interjections of gorgeous orchestral elements, beautiful piano, and droning electronics, yet there’s an underlining hopeful feel to it all. In all honesty, it’s pretty damn good! It starts off a lot less heavy than initial exceptions led listeners to believe, going for a more atmospheric approach. Plot-wise, this picks up right after the events of the previous record. Yet the dust hasn’t even settled in the aftermath of the Arcadia storyline, and the band are already storming ahead into the next chapter of this saga, starting with new track “Rise Up”. It indeed made a stir here at EoE, with a glowing review, as well as plenty of accolades during the ‘Best of 2020’ awards. Their fifth album saw a brilliantly realised, poignant concept, told in a genre-defying soundscape of electrifyingly magnificent proportions. This was unexpected! Swedish rockers Smash Into Pieces made an explosive impact with last year’s Arcadia.
